Babeș-Bolyai University launched on October 21 the ACTRIS-UBB Platform, dedicated to pan-European research on atmospheric composition and climate change.
The ACTRIS-UBB Platform (https://actris-ubb.ro/) thus becomes a national (https://actris.ro/) facility of the pan-European ACTRIS-RI research infrastructure (https://www.actris.eu/) and an object of interest to the ground-based observing segment of the European Space Agency’s Earth observation program.
The ACTRIS-UBB platform (1) connects UBB and the city to the national infrastructure and the country to the European ACTRIS-RI infrastructure (https://www.actris.eu/) and European Space Agency programs, (2) brings a fundamental environmental health component to our broader program – InfoBioNano4Health – and (3) complements UBB’s profile as an international Hub for sustainability and climate change, with the UNESCO Chair in this field also being organized in the country at UBB – UBB Rector, prof. univ. dr. psych. Prof. Dr. Daniel David.
The Dean of the Faculty of Environmental Science and Engineering, associate prof. dr. Nicolae Ajtai, director of the project behind the construction of the platform, emphasizes that “The presence in Cluj-Napoca of two National ACTRIS-RI (ERIC) facilities for remote sensing of aerosols and clouds, will place Cluj-Napoca and UBB on the global map of leading atmospheric research. The ACTRIS-UBB platform thus becomes a point of reference for the scientific community in atmospheric research, while it will also offer support to national and local authorities in the management of environmental issues related to climate change and air quality.”
